Interview With Master Li by Dr. Jampa Mackenzie Stewart

When we were at lunch with Master Li Junfeng (he likes to be called Teacher Li) in June, I asked him, “Who else in China is teaching the Nei Dan, the Taoist inner alchemy formulas, like Master Chia”? Teacher Li smiled and said, “Master Chia has great merit for spreading Qigong. Through his books and teaching around the world, so many people have learned about Qigong. They gained respect for Qigong and now they practice.

“Secondly, Master Chia is so open with his teaching and knowledge. He does not hold back, but openly shares his vast knowledge with all students. He also allows his students to study other teachings with other teachers. This is very rare.

“I don’t know of other teachers in China who teach Nei Dan (Inner Alchemy) so openly or who have such vast knowledge. China is a big country. There may be other teachers, living in the mountains, who teach such things. But I don’t know of them. Master Chia is very special.”

Teacher Li is in a good position to say these things with reliability.
First of all, Li himself is one of the world’s leading Chi Kung (Qigong) and Chinese martial arts masters. As the #1 Wushu coach in China and in the world for 15 years, as well as a leading martial arts movie star, Teacher Li also had an open door to China’s top martial arts and Qigong masters, and to the Taoist and Buddhist temples famous both for meditation and for martial arts and Chi Kung.

He personally trained with many of China’s greatest traditional Chi Kung, T’ai Chi, and Pa Kua masters. Li was good friends with Hai Deng, the abbot of the Shaolin Temple in Henan province, and brought his students to train there, including Jet Li. He was also very close with Professor Feng Zhiqiang, the president of Beijing’s Chen Style Taijiquan Association. Li was an indoor disciple and lineage holder of Li Ziming, one of the 20th century’s top Pa Kua masters. He also studied Dayan (Wild Goose) Qigong with Yang Meijun, and Guo Lin Qigong with Madame Guo Lin, as well as many other styles of Qigong.
